The Chestnut Tee and Dress  from Gracious Threads is perfect for the upcoming cooler weather.  Chestnut can be your traditional tee (bonus unisex option for the tee) or it can feature a gathered front with yoke.  The gathered front option has a top or dress length.

Both the top and the dress are perfect with leggins and boots for Fall!  It has lots of room and can be layered with a cami underneath for really drafty days!

The pattern is listed as Advanced Beginner.  When choosing your fabric, it is important to read the materials guide and pay attention to the amount of stretch and recovery of the fabric.  Ribbed knits and cotton lycra are ideal for the neck to ensure it will fit over your child’s head and go back to it’s original shape…no one wants a droopy, overstretched mock turtle neck!  A fabric stretch guide is included in the Materials section.

Here I used Mustard Cotton Lycra from Peekaboo Fabric Shop for the yoke, neck band and cuffs.  I didn’t have any trouble getting this over her head and the fabric recovers nicely!

Layered pattern pieces make for ease of blending of sizes and saves on ink and paper!  The pattern features illustrations and clear step-by-step instructions.  Printing and taping guides are included.

My daughter refused to take hers off and actually wore it as a nightgown!  I know it’s a good pattern when my kid refuses to take it off!  Guess I’ll have to get busy making more Chestnuts!

This was my first test for Gracious Threads and I have to say that I’m hooked!  You can be hooked too – just leave me a comment telling me what you love most about the Chestnut and you could win a copy of the Chestnut Tee and Dress!  I’ll choose one winner at random on Sept. 12th!  Good luck!
