Summer is almost here! After having such a warm winter, I am so happy to sew up some swimsuits! Last year I bought a ton of swim fabric from Peekaboo Fabric Shop, but didn’t have a chance to use it all. My kids had a field day digging through all of the prints and solids to help me choose what I’d use for testing.
The Marilyn Vintage Swimsuit from Peekaboo Pattern Shop has so many options! It features a tankini or a one piece; basic one piece and tankini (no ruching or color blocking); color blocked one piece and tankini; ruched front panel and color blocked one piece and tankini. The tankini bottoms can also be made with elastic or a waistband. All views can be made with either crossback straps or halter ties. It’s amazing!
I’ve sewn alot of swimsuits for myself and my children. This is one of the easier ones that I’ve made, in my opinion!
For testing I made the ruched one piece with halter ties. I love the retro look and the coverage the suit provides. The suit can be lined or unlined. When making the unlined version, I topstitched all of my seam allowances down for added comfort.
The leg bands and chest band make the suit easier and faster than having elastic stitched onto those areas.
All of the swim fabric is from Peekaboo Fabric Shop. Amy has an amazing selection and the quality is second to none. My kids are hard on swimsuits and the ones using Peekaboo swim fabric have held up really well since last year. No fading or discoloration and the price is very reasonable considering the high quality of the fabric. She also carries swim lining and swim elastic! Nothing like one stop shopping!
So grab your copy of the Marilyn Vintage Swimsuit today while it’s on sale for the release! I can’t wait to make one out of cotton lycra for my little Rue to play in! As it is, she’s slept in all of the ones I’ve made so far!
